From sign installation to carpentry to paint, PHL’s skilled trades departments are made up of hardworking employees who aim to improve the passenger and employee experience. What may seem like small improvements have a huge impact on the overall look and feel of the airport. Whether it's snow, ice, sleet or slush, there's no doubt that winter weather conditions pose a challenge for airports. In this episode, we'll  give a behind-the-scenes tour of what it takes to keep our runways clean and airport operational during a winter storm. In this very special episode, Chellie is joined by World War II hero, Dr. Eugene Richardson, an original member of the elite Tuskegee Airmen. “Tuskegee Airmen” refers to all who were involved in the so-called “Tuskegee Experience,” the Army Air Corps program to train African-Americans to fly and maintain combat aircraft, including pilots, navigators, bombardiers, maintenance and support staff, instructors, and other personnel. Their success and achievements led to full integration of the U.S. military in 1948, and paved the way for African Americans to serve as pilots in the U.S. Air Force.

The employees at the Philadelphia International Airport and the Northeast Philadelphia Airport are one big family. So, it should come as no surprise that when over 1,000 of our family members are hurting from the government shutdown, the PHL community has joined together to help. Whether it’s our weekly “Meals on Monday” program, a sit-down lunch for all federal government workers at the airport, or opening the doors to a new food pantry, the outpouring of support and people wanting to help has been overwhelming. In this special episode, you’ll hear about what we're doing at PHL and how you can help, whether you're a member of the PHL community or a Philadelphia-area resident.

In this episode, Chellie is joined by PHL’s Chief Revenue Officer, James Tyrrell, who oversees air service development. Developing and maintaining a robust air service network is a critical function of any airport, helping to spur local and regional economic growth – but it doesn’t happen overnight. By taking an active approach to air service development, Tyrrell is working to attract new airlines, maintain existing airline partnerships, grow flight offerings, and review route patterns to seek out new business opportunities.

In honor of the Army-Navy game on December 8th in Philadelphia, Chellie talks with Liberty USO CEO, Joe Brooks about the new USO lounge at PHL. This less than a year old 4,600-square-foot facility has a full restaurant-style kitchen, men's and women's bunk-rooms, a family playroom, theater-style seats, showers and is staffed by Liberty USO volunteers. It’s a place for service members and their families to escape the stress of traveling and to decompress.
